Keeping liquids separate from meals can be one of the most difficult lifestyle changes after weight loss surgery. The guidelines are to not drink 30 minutes before and 1 hour after eating a meal. Even small sips of lquids while eating are not recommended. Here are a few ways to help you remember...
1. Keep a sign where you typically eat that tells you "Don't Drink w/ Meals"
2. Enlist some help. Ask a loved one or friend to remind you before sitting down to eat that you can't drink w/meals
3. When you eat at a meal, make sure your not distracted.
4. Plan you meals and eating times. Consider using a protein drink for one meal to help you get your fluid needs for the day.
